Paul says that God uses men to carry out His justice. In the John text it is Jesus, God the Son, that grants pardon. This is the same prerogative of God demonstrated in Genesis 4 when God doesn't kill Cain for murdering Abel. God, as Creator and Sovereign, has this right. We do not.Brent https://www.blogger.com/profile/12839579206237713943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231248124913635845.post-32274554259027973922010-08-08T23:57:41.462-04:002010-08-08T23:57:41.462-04:00When I think about this issue, John 8:2-11 always ...When I think about this issue, John 8:2-11 always comes to mind. One of the lessons I had always taken from this account was that when we became sinners, we were relieved of the authority to carry out God's judgement. "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."C Bowmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14585127418101661800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231248124913635845.post-8974978456051387762010-08-06T16:09:17.802-04:002010-08-06T16:09:17.802-04:00I agree that our government is not trustworthy. God has historically handed out judgment by the hands of men and women, all of whom were sinners. The question is not what is our government like. The question is what does God say. In addition, there are some Christians in government who do speak truth and work righteousness. I pray their influence increase.Brent https://www.blogger.com/profile/12839579206237713943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231248124913635845.post-41378894134562032842010-08-06T13:10:29.953-04:002010-08-06T13:10:29.953-04:00If our government was constituted by Christians, I...If our government was constituted by Christians, I'd probably agree with you. But, as the federal and state governments exist today, charging them to deal out God's judgement strikes me as a very bad idea.C Bowmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14585127418101661800noreply@blogger.com
